Whether black & white or yellow & white their contrasting colours make them stunning animals. Mertens Water Monitor (Varanus Mertensi) Found in close proximity to water across the top end of Australia, these beautiful monitors grow to around 1m in total length. They feed primarily on crustaceons, fish, frogs and turtle eggs. They can be quite shy as youngsters but tame well as adults. They prefer a large outdoors enclosure with plenty of sunlight to bask in and a large pond for swimming (in tropical areas). |
